Help us protect the Indiana Dunes! Volunteer

How to Get Involved

Friends of Indiana Dunes are just that, individuals who care about the Indiana Dunes. The State Park and the National Lakeshore are priceless natural resources in the midst of the heartland’s largest metropolitan area. The Friends sponsor various events during the year to benefit these parks and other groups in the dunes who work towards similar missions.  Over 3 million visitors enjoy the Indiana Dunes each year.

Birdathon Fundraisers

Will bird 4 bucks

Take part in a fun way to raise money for the dunes.  State Park staff and area expert birders conduct an annual birdathon to locate as many birds possible in the dunes area.  Pledges per species helps raise funds for State Park bird related activities.  Birdathons take place in May.  Spring birdathon pledge forms can be found here.

Your time is just as valuable as any monetary contribution. For more information on volunteer opportunities with Friends of the Indiana Dunes and other Park Partners, visit each appropriate park or contact the Friends directly for Friends sponsored activities.

Donation Boxes in the Parks

The Indiana Dunes contain amazing biodiversity and beauty within driving distance of the Chicagoland area. We believe the Indiana Dunes experience is worth a whole lot more! On your next visit to the State Park, please consider a donation, whether a few pennies or a few dollars to help support visitor facilities, trails, wildlife conservation, historic preservation, and education programs. Friends of Indiana Dunes donation boxes are located at the park main office and nature center.

Which ever way you choose to give, thank you for helping to preserve and protect the Indiana Dunes!
